I am finally headache-free after 10 years, thanks to Apex Headache Clinic
Dolores from Belfast who is in her 60s had been suffering horrendous occipital (back of the head) headaches for 10 years. Dolores, when did your headaches begin?
I had suffered with migraines since I was in my twenties. Then around 10 years ago, I started suffering with severe pain in the back of my head, at the base of my skull. I attended my GP many times and was prescribed various different medications. I was then referred to see a Consultant Neurologist for a brain MRI scan and they diagnosed my head pain as occipital headaches. One year ago the pain in the back of my head became worse and it was constant.
How did the head pain affect your life?
When I had the occipital headaches, my life had to be put on hold, I couldn’t do anything. When the pain was at its worst, I even ended up at A&E, it was horrendous and very scary not knowing what was causing my pain and what was happening to me.
What led you to Apex Headache Clinic?
A Consultant at A&E and my GP both had suggested that I try Apex Headache Clinic to see if they could help with my pain. I didn’t want to take a lot of strong medications that were being prescribed and I was keen to see if there could be a drug-free solution to my headaches rather than popping pills all the time.
How has your life changed since having treatment?
When I first started physiotherapy treatment with my specialist physiotherapist, I was very skeptical because the treatment was so gentle and not a firm massage like I had thought it would be. It took a few sessions before I noticed any difference. My improvement was gradual and over the course of treatment I slowly noticed my headaches improving. I now attend Apex Headache Clinic for maintenance treatment, once every 6 weeks and I am no longer having occipital headaches. This has been amazing for me!
