I’m now clear from vertigo after having Covid thanks to Apex Headache Clinic

52-year-old, business owner Mark Scullion from Bellaghy, suffered with vertigo after having Covid which had turned his life upside down. After thinking vertigo might be something he would have to live with, he visited Apex Headache Clinic in the hope that he could get even a little relief. Here, he shares how the clinic’s unique regime of specialist manual physiotherapy treatment for vertigo and dizziness, called The Nelson Vertigo Approach™, cleared his vertigo meaning he could start to enjoy life again.

Mark, when did your vertigo begin?

I used to get vertigo at the end of the hayfever season each year but only for a few weeks and it would be infrequent and not restrictive, it didn’t affect my day to day life. At the beginning of this year in January 2021 I took covid and my vertigo spiralled out of control. It was horrendous.

How did the dizziness affect your life?

It affected my life such that I couldn’t function or do the things I could normally do. It affected my work life majorly, I would have to leave board meetings. I also had no energy. I was a very active person who trained a lot and climbed mountains including climbing Mount Everest just 4 years ago and now I had to stop while walking up a flight of stairs.

What led you to Apex Headache Clinic?

My wife and I signed up to a post-covid survey at the University of Ulster. There were 100 people tested for their antibodies and how their body was reacting to the virus. I told one of the professors that I wasn’t able to function due to my vertigo and that my life had been completely turned upside down. She said I might benefit from attending Apex Headache Clinic. I made an appointment for an initial consultation there and at first, I was sceptical as the mobilisation of the neck involved very little movements and I was used to something a lot more aggressive from previous treatment elsewhere. I attended twice a week with my specialist physiotherapist which was quite a commitment as I live 40 miles away but my health was my main priority and my aim was to get myself better no matter what. I felt there was no other source of help or information out there, my GP wasn’t able to help me and I even went for a medical as I was starting to get paranoid that there could be something else underlying. The treatment at Apex Headache Clinic was my only hope and I wanted to give it the best possible chance.

How has your life changed since having treatment?

Much to my disbelief after attending my twice weekly sessions the vertigo began to subside. I thought this was something I was going to have forever but now I am 99% clear from vertigo. My treatment sessions are now spaced out to once every 3 weeks. I used to think that I would have vertigo forever and not be able to do all the activities that I enjoyed before but now I’ve got my life back.

What advice would you offer someone suffering from vertigo?

Get yourself to Apex Headache Clinic, don’t hesitate. Vertigo runs in my family and now my mum who is 90 years old is also attending Apex Clinic for treatment. I have done so well with my vertigo after having covid that I would highly recommend this clinic for anyone who is suffering with vertigo.
