For 45-year-old Welder Fabricator Jonathan Lyons from Lower Ballinderry, life was miserable. For the past 3-years, he suffered from a never-ending migraine, with nothing offering him any relief. Jonathan, when did your migraines begin?
I remember having migraines as a child, but these passed. Then, 3 years ago, I began getting them again, but this time, it was much, much worse. They came out of nowhere and I tried everything to get rid of them. I constantly had appointments with the GP and tried every possible medication. Sometimes, these would ease the pain a little, but it was still always niggling and never cleared completely.
How did the pain effect your life?
It was awful. Nine times out of ten, I would end up in bed. I was vomiting and suffered temporary vision loss, so the only thing I could do was to take to bed and wait for the pain to ease. I am a welder and the lights would hurt my eyes, which made my job really difficult. I had to walk around wearing sunglasses and with my head down to try to ease the pain. I was honestly just living from day-to-day and I couldn’t make any plans because I was worried that my migraine would ruin them.
