My headaches and migraines have been ongoing for 33 years. At the age of just 8, I experienced my first migraine. Over the years, I have seen various people and tried multiple treatments, with no cure.

Living with constant headaches and migraines was crippling. They would hit me out of the blue and floor me. The pain was often 9/10 or sometimes even 10/10.

During my initial assessment, my physio diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. I attended the clinic weekly for treatment. After just 4 weeks, I began to notice an improvement and at 6 weeks my migraines had completely cleared. Like most people, I still get the very odd headache, but I haven’t had a migraine in 4 months now.

David Stoops, Belfast

For years, I played rugby for Dungannon to an all-Ireland league level. As rugby is very physical and a contact sport, I have suffered countless concussions, three of which were severe. At the start of my sixth season, I began getting what I would describe as ‘tension headaches’. I saw a Consultant Neurologist and because of his advice, I stopped playing rugby, which was devastating for me.

To have to give up something, which has been a massive part of your life for years is heartbreaking. I was living with constant migraines, which was making it extremely difficult to work in an office environment. I tried everything I could think of to help.

During my first session with Tim, he diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. I couldn’t believe it – I finally felt like someone might be able to help me. After just 3-4 sessions, my headaches and migraines cleared completely. I really liked the fact that Tim has a background in sports and I felt that he genuinely cared about getting me better.

Jake Finlay, Co. Tyrone

I experienced jaw pain for the first time 8 years ago and it has been part of my life ever since. It started with an audible pop, which was extremely painful. I tried everything to clear it.

The whole left side of my face was painful. I felt like no one understood what it was like to live this way. My face and mouth were constantly sore and I was living with it frequently clicking and popping. The pain was so bad that I couldn’t even yawn.

At my initial assessment, Michelle diagnosed the pain as stemming from my neck. I attended Apex Headache Clinic twice a week before we reduced this to once a week. Over just a course of a few weeks, I noticed a gradual improvement and a couple of months later, the pain completely cleared. I couldn’t believe it!

Stephanie Cochrane, Belfast

I remember having migraines as a child, but these passed. Then, 3 years ago, I began getting them again, but this time, it was much, much worse. They came out of nowhere and I tried everything to get rid of them.

My sister-in-law attended the clinic for headaches and had great success so she persuaded me to try it. At the first appointment with Michelle, she diagnosed my migraines as stemming from my neck. I couldn’t believe it – after all this time I finally knew what was causing so much pain. For me, the treatment was life changing. I walked into that treatment room with a migraine and left without one. I’m delighted to say that I haven’t had a migraine in months.

Jonathan Lyons, Lower Ballinderry

I had my first ever migraine at the age of 15. At that time, I was getting around 2-3 severe migraines a year but as I got older, I would get 2-3 migraines a month. I also had a constant headache and couldn’t get through a single day without painkillers. When I say I’d tried everything to clear my migraines, I literally mean everything!

During my first appointment, Nicole diagnosed my headaches and migraines as stemming from my neck. I was so surprised. For me, the relief from treatment was immediate. I had a migraine before treatment and it cleared afterwards.

My life has completely changed. To go from taking painkillers daily to just the odd time is amazing.

Julie Reid, Comber

My migraines started when I was 15-years old. I tried avoiding all the ‘typical’ migraine triggers such as caffeine, chocolate and cheese and this had little affect. Pain medication did nothing to ease the migraines and the symptoms were pretty horrendous. As an outgoing teenager, it was awful.

It was actually my mum who heard about Apex Headache Clinic. With nothing to lose, she suggested I give it a try and I’m so glad I did. When Nicole diagnosed my migraines as stemming from my neck, I was shocked, as I never experienced any neck pain. I was so pleased to finally know the cause. Initially, I attended the clinic twice a week. After about three to four weeks, I began to notice an improvement, with the pain gradually easing. I am delighted to say that for the past couple of months, I have been completely migraine-free, which is just unbelievable.

Amber Carson, Dundonald

My migraines started about 8 years ago, around the time my youngest was born. She was born with down syndrome and spent 2 months in hospital, so I thought the onset of migraines was due to stress. Once they arrived, they never left. I had a migraine every single day for these 8 years. It was awful. I would wake up in the morning, get the kids ready for school and just go back to bed again. It was no life. I wasn’t sleeping at night because I knew I would wake up with a migraine. I had no option but to just get on with things but it was a struggle.

Thanks to Apex Clinic, my migraines have cleared. My life has drastically changed. I am now able to get the kids off to school and get on with my day, rather than having to climb back into bed due to the pain. It’s the best thing I ever did and definitely money well spent.

Margaret Watson, Belfast

The first time I ever had a migraine I was 14 years ago. The pain was so bad that it woke me up in the middle of the night and I went straight to hospital. Since then, migraines have always been a part of my life and I’ve done everything possible to try to clear them, including numerous GP appointments, MRIs, CT scans, blood tests and I even had a lumbar puncture. I have also been on every painkiller known, which have done very little to ease the pain.

When Michelle diagnosed my migraines as stemming from my neck, it just made sense. After only a couple of weeks, I started to feel relief and gradually, over the next few months, the frequency of my migraines lessened. Now, like everyone, I still get the odd headache but to go from having constant migraines, to a headache once a month is a massive difference.

Ruth Graham, Antrim

My vertigo began about four years ago. I was told by a GP that it was from my arthritis and it was something I was just going to have to learn to live with. Over the years, it became progressively worse. I used to have it every few days, up until about three years ago, when it became constant. As a result, I also had headaches and neck pain and was taking painkillers four times a day. I was constantly feeling sick and feeling miserable. It was just awful.

During my first appointment, Nicola diagnosed my vertigo as stemming from my neck and after just two sessions, I began to notice a massive difference. Then, following just a few more sessions, my vertigo, neck pain and headaches all cleared!

Hubert Nicholl, Ballymena

I realised something was wrong at the age of 13. I began suffering vision loss and numbness in my arms and legs. This lasted for a year, during which time I saw various consultants, had x-rays, CT scans and blood tests, all of which came back normal. Next, I was sent to an eye specialist, who noticed an abnormality in my eye. I was referred to a consultant in the same clinic and I was told that my symptoms were a form of migraine, even though up until this point, I never had any pain. Ironically, following this diagnosis, I began experiencing severe migraines and a persistent headache that lasted all day everyday. After visiting my GP, I was put on various forms of medication, all of which did nothing to ease the pain. Life was awful.

During my first appointment with Nicola, she was able to identify straight away my neck was triggering my headaches and migraines. After just a few sessions, I began to feel relief. The numbness and vision loss improved and my headaches became less severe. I am thrilled to say that for over 18 months now, I’ve had no episodes. The treatment has been miraculous.

Sophie Williams, aged 16, Holywood

I began experiencing headaches over 3 years ago. My 12-year-old daughter is severely autistic so life can be very stressful sometimes. I attributed the onset of my headaches to a combination of being sleep deprived, stressed and tense. I also had a sinus problem so I was sure my headaches were a result of this.

It’s hard to describe what it was like living with headaches all day, everyday. Going to sleep with one and waking up to find it was still there was unbearable to say the least. I felt as if I needed a hole drilled in the side of my head to let the tension out. The pain was so intense that I couldn’t even think straight. Ordinary, everyday tasks became a struggle. Painkillers had very little affect, only ever dulling the pain, rather than clearing it.

At my first appointment with Michelle McDevitt, she diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. I couldn’t believe it! Gradually, over the next couple of months, my headaches began to ease, until I was eventually going days without having one. Currently, I have maybe one or two mild headaches a month, which is nothing compared to living with one all day everyday. It was definitely worth the two and a half hour round-trip to Apex Headache Clinic for each treatment. At one time, I never thought that I would be clear of headaches. It’s really amazing. Apex Headache Clinic has without a doubt given me my life back.

Lorna Bingham

All I’ve even known is life with headaches. I’m told that at the age of 6 months, I began suffering from them. With the onset of a headache, my temperature dropped, I became pale and the pain was so severe that it would cause me to vomit. Each severe episode would last for 2 hours and then gradually ease from there, before returning 10 to 14 days later. This cycle continued like clockwork over the years. Nothing in particular seemed to trigger it and we tried all angles such as consulting GPs and pediatricians, undergoing allergy tests and having MRI scans. You name it, we tried it.

In a way, I became used to having migraines. Because I developed them when I was so young, I didn’t know any different. However, it was still horrendous. When a migraine struck, I would curl up on the sofa for hours, waiting for the pain to ease. I just wanted to be left alone. Painkillers gave me no relief at all.

We live in Cavan and all I can say is that it was definitely worth the two-and-a-half-hour drive! My Granny recently commented that I’m a lot more confident and care-free now, which I guess comes from not worrying about how a migraine could ruin my day. In a nutshell, Apex Headache Clinic really has changed my life.

Cian Smith

In January 2017, I suddenly began suffering headaches, out of nowhere. I was doing quite a bit of rowing at the time and I just didn’t feel like myself. Within a couple of months, the headaches became much more frequent, until I had a full blown, never-ending migraine.

The pain was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. It was so bad that I couldn’t even walk. The only way to get even a little relief was to lie in bed, which I did for seven weeks. I missed exams and faced the possibility of not retuning to school if the pain didn’t ease.

At my initial assessment, Michelle diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. I immediately felt relief from just knowing what the source was. Within just a few sessions, I began to feel relief. My headaches became less severe and I would have periods of no pain at all. With each session, the pain eased, and recently, I’m only experiencing one very mild headache, every three weeks or so, which is a massive change from being confined to bed for seven weeks.

Olly Ryder

I can remember first experiencing migraines 15 years ago. At the time, they came and went without me doing anything about it. I suffered with headaches over the years but it was after the birth of my daughter three years ago, that they came back with a vengeance. Suddenly, they became so severe, and I would get a migraine about three times a week.

It was terrible. I have two young children and I found myself just struggling to get through the day. I was constantly waiting on my husband to return home from work so I could go to bed. I was always tired because I wasn’t sleeping, which in turn meant that I was grumpy and snappy with my husband and kids all of the time.

At my first appointment, after my consultation and assessment, Nicola diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. After each appointment, I began to notice a reduction in the frequency of my migraines. I also listened to Nicola’s advice to try and stop loading my neck. This, coupled with her treatment has led to a massive improvement. I also bought the Apex Sleepwell Pillow, which I firmly believe is also playing a role in keeping my migraines away. I am pleased to say that I have been migraine-free for months now.

Vicki Neill

I can’t remember what triggered my dizziness but it started about five years ago. I went through all the stages of finding a cure for it. I saw GPs, Consultants, had MRI scans and had every test going, but I was told they could not find the cause of it, which was extremely frustrating. The doctors told me that it was just something that I was going to have to live with, which was extremely upsetting.

Everyday things that I used to take for granted became almost impossible. When I woke up in the morning, I had to stay in bed for ages and gradually get myself up because if I just got out of bed straight away, like most people do, I would have fallen over. I just wanted the dizziness to stop and was so desperate for a cure.

During my consultation and assessment with Michelle, she diagnosed my dizziness as stemming from my neck and following just one treatment session, I honestly felt relief straight away. After that first appointment, I didn’t have any dizziness for about 5 days. It was the longest I had ever felt relief in five years and I just couldn’t believe it. After each session, I would go longer and longer without any dizziness, until it disappeared completely.

Shane Walker

Around my late twenties, I had my very first migraine. Over the years they would come and go but in 2006, when I returned to Northern Ireland after living in France, I suddenly began suffering two migraines a day. On one occasion, the pain was so severe that in desperation, I started banging my head off a wall in the hope of easing the pain. Another time, I was visiting friends when a migraine struck. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life and I ended up in hospital because of it.

My specialist physiotherapist, Michelle diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck.

Since the first appointment, I have never had another migraine. They have threatened from time-to-time but have never ever materialised to anything more. Furthermore, the incidence of these ‘threats’ began decreasing with a few more appointments. Nowadays, I attend once monthly for a maintenance appointment with Michelle.

Mary Booth

Having battled with migraines for 60 years, I honestly thought there was no cure. When I had a migraine I felt like my head was going to burst. I was depending on painkillers to offer what little relief they could and constantly having to cancel social events. It was a nightmare. The first thing my husband would ask me every single day of our lives was how my head was.

I was sitting in a coffee shop and saw an article about Apex Headache Clinic in a magazine. I dismissed it, wondering how on earth physio could help headaches but my husband pushed me to go.

My headache specialist physio Nicola was fantastic. After a thorough history and examination, she diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. Honestly, I left the first appointment feeling like I was walking on air. For me, the relief from the pain was almost instant. Between appointments for the first few weeks, I would still get the odd headache, which was a lot milder. Now, I am thrilled to say, that I am completely headache free!”

Vi Kennedy

I don’t think I can remember a time in my life when I wasn’t getting headaches. At the age of about 6, I began suffering from headaches and migraines. I had every test under the sun done. As my headaches began to get progressively worse over the years, the pain had a massive impact on my life. I was missing work, and socialising was almost impossible. In desperation to find some relief, I was searching for anything headache related on the internet, when I came across Apex Headache Clinic and I’m so glad I did.

My physiotherapist, Michelle, carried out a thorough history and examination and was confident that my headaches were stemming from my neck. No one had ever mentioned this before. As soon as she started working on my neck, I could feel the headache lifting. When I left my appointment, I phoned my mum, almost in tears, because I felt that I had found the cure for my headaches.

Following this, I attended weekly appointments. Each week, my headaches drastically improved, and after just 5 weeks, they completely disappeared. I’m so pleased to say that I have been free of headaches and migraines ever since.

As a child, I was a go-getter. I was adventurous, which often led to me falling off climbing frames at the park and tumbling over. These falls over the years, were followed by a car accident as a child. My headaches began at the age of 13. Initially, they started to occur once a week, which was manageable, but over time they became more severe and much more frequent. Gradually, they started to come on daily, and the pain was crippling, having a massive impact on my life. Thankfully, a Consultant Neurologist’s recommendation led me to Apex Headache Clinic.

On my first appointment Rebecca diagnosed my headaches as being triggered from my neck. After just two treatments, I began to feel the difference in my headaches, and I couldn’t believe it. My headaches are now down to one a month and I attend the clinic just once a month for a maintenance treatment. I can’t believe the difference the treatment has made to my life. To go from suffering never-ending, crippling headaches and not being able to leave my home, to having just the odd one, is incredible, and something I could never have imagined.

Annie Quinn – Newry

About four years ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It was removed and following radiotherapy, I thankfully received the ‘all clear’. However, I felt like I didn’t get to celebrate this because my health never seemed to get back on track. Following treatment for my cancer, about four years ago, I began experiencing headaches. Initially, these were infrequent but they gradually became worse over time so that I was suffering from full blown migraines, which would last days at a time.

When I had a migraine, the only thing I could do was to take to my bed. The pain was so sharp and the only way I could make it bearable was to lie in a dark room in the same position. I couldn’t move my head at all because the pain was so bad. I visited various doctors and consultants but it left me feeling hopeless about finding a cure.

My mum came across an article about Apex Headache Clinic and in desperation I booked an appointment. Michelle diagnosed my headaches and migraines as stemming from my neck. Progressively, they began to become less frequent and less severe. My appointments were reduced to one a month and I am delighted to say that I have been headache free now for months.

Emma Wood – Bangor

There is no definitive moment that I can pinpoint to the onset of my headaches. To be honest, they’re something that I’ve always suffered with. Over the years they began to get progressively worse and about three years ago, I started getting migraines. The pain was just awful. Each time I had a migraine, my plans for the day were quickly ruined. I had no option but to go to bed and wait for the pain to pass.

My own GP who recommended Apex Headache Clinic after hearing about the clinic’s high success rates. After I described my migraines and Nicole carried out a thorough assessment, she was confident that my neck was triggering my migraines and headaches. Within just a couple of weeks I began to notice a massive difference and I really couldn’t believe it. Now, I’ve been migraine free for 5 months. The difference to my life is indescribable.

Helen Barbour, Co.Down

My headaches began many years ago when I first started teaching, but five years ago, with an increase in workload they became much more frequent. Suddenly headaches were a daily occurrence and on top of that, every four weeks, I would get a severe migraine. The pain was unbearable and I couldn’t carry out normal daily tasks, which are usually carried out without thinking.

Then in April 2016, my neck and shoulder seized up, leaving me hunched over and suffering intense pain. During an appointment with my GP, she asked about my headaches.  I followed all the advice that she gave me but as my workload increased as a teacher, the severity of my headaches and migraines also became worse.

At my first appointment at Apex Headache Clinic, I felt hope for the first time. Following an examination, my physio diagnosed my headaches and migraines as stemming from my neck, and so treatment began. I had a course of treatment and I can’t believe how much my life has changed. I no longer have to take medication, or indeed carry it with me as I’m so confident that my headaches have gone. It is now almost one year since I’ve had a migraine and it has been months since my last headache.

Both my life and health have been dramatically transformed. I no longer wake up expecting to have a headache and I get great enjoyment from the simple things in.

Mary Rice – Belfast

At the age of 14, I was diagnosed officially as having migraines. My mum has multiple sclerosis so I was referred to neurology for further investigations. I was sent away with painkillers and told to avoid dairy products, and that was it. Migraines were just something I was going to have to learn to deal with, but it wasn’t easy.

Then, in 2007, I woke up to the feeling of extreme pressure and hearing loss in my left ear. I was really dizzy so I couldn’t stand or walk and as the symptoms were new, I didn’t connect them to my migraines. I had tinnitus in my left ear which also spread to my right. I was sent for more neurological tests, which all came back clear. I was at an all time low. It went on for years and was absolute torture.

In April, I attended my first appointment with Michelle at Apex Clinic. I attended once a week and Michelle worked on the left side of my neck. Within 6 weeks, the symptoms started to clear. I couldn’t believe it! Then, after another 3 weeks, the headaches started to clear too. My dizziness stopped, my hearing began to improve and my balance was back to normal. I was in shock. To have literally spent decades living with the debilitating effects of headaches, vertigo and tinnitus, to finally finding relief was incredible.

Elaine Sokanovic – Jordanstown

My headaches began four years ago and have been present ever since. I attended several doctors’ appointments, and carried out all recommendations, with no relief at all. I was also sent to paediatricians at the hospital, and again the outcome was the same. We literally tried all angles and the pain continued to get worse and worse, with no relief from painkillers at all. As a teenager, the pain had a major impact on my life. Thankfully, I finally found Apex Headache Clinic. When I attended my first appointment, what I noticed straight away was that the team genuinely wanted to help. Nicole was confident that she could get to the source of the problem and it was the first bit of hope I’d felt in four years. To go from suffering headaches all day everyday, to the odd one is just unbelievable and Apex has truly changed my life.

Beth Neely – Ballycastle

My headaches began when I was 11. I would start getting headaches all day long and felt like a tight band circling my head with a constant pain at the top of my neck. They got worse and worse until they became a daily occurrence and suddenly this horrible pain was consuming my life. After trying every treatment, my mum read an article about a new headache clinic at Apex and we decided to give this a shot. After a course of treatment over a few months, my headaches cleared completely. I have been totally headache-free for months now and this has been life-changing for me. I can now live my life like any normal teenager for the first time in five years.

Rachel Caldwell, Belfast

I had suffered painful severe headaches for upwards of 15 years which as a hard working Architect seriously hindered my professional and home life. After trying several medical routes to no avail I was referred to Apex. For the first time I received a correct diagnosis and after several weeks of treatment the pattern of headaches stopped. The relief and difference this has made to my daily living is indescribable.
For the last several years occasional repeat treatments have prevented any reoccurrence. Not only was the service I received professional, friendly and successful! But Rebecca Nelson visited my workplace to help with correct working posture and I also obtained the clinics specially developed pillow for headache free sleeping.

Keith Lockhart – Belfast

You need to come to this clinic! I started seeing Tim for an awful pain in my head that I had for months on end. It was unbearable and trips to doctors and hospitals didn’t help. Within a month I was so happy to say my headache is gone and I have my life back! Tim is awesome and really listens to your needs and was really professional and easy to talk to. The clinic as a whole is great and the lovely ladies at reception have amazing costumer service and always make you feel welcome! You will not be disappointed!

Jennifer Ale – Belfast

About 18 months ago, I can remember having a headache before going to bed. I took paracetamol and woke up in the morning to find it was still there. Believe it or not, that headache continued constantly with the pain only getting worse and worse with time. I tried to find a cure for my never ending headache. I was taking painkillers daily, which was pointless because they did little to help. I visited the doctor on several occasions but I was only ever prescribed more medication, which often stopped me from being able to function at all. There were times when the pain was so severe that I was admitted to hospital.

Thankfully my mum came across Apex Headache Clinic. Nicole fully understood the extent of my condition and quickly diagnosed my headaches as stemming from my neck. I began attending weekly appointments and noticed that after about six weeks, the pain began to disappear, so much so that I have been completely headache free for weeks now.

I can’t believe I lived with devastating pain for such a long time. Get help today from Apex Headache Clinic – give them a go. I did and my life is now back on track.

Dawn Morrow – Coleraine

After having headaches on and off for 15 years and visiting several GPs and a Neurologist I was told I had migraines and medication was the only way they could be controlled. For 10 days I had a particularly bad headache with neurological symptoms, including visual disturbances, facial paralysis, vomiting, slurred speech and severe headache. I talked to a friend who attended and recommended Rebecca Nelson in the Apex Clinic. After a brief telephone conversation with Rebecca I arranged an initial consultation. During the consultation I was asked all the details over the years of the headaches. Within 45 minutes of thorough questions and a physical examination Ms Nelson was able to determine my headaches had originated from a fall down the stairs shortly before my initial headaches begun, 15 years ago. My diagnosis was cervicogenic headaches, headaches and neurological symptoms originating from a neck injury. My treatment began immediately. Within a few physiotherapy sessions I felt they helped significantly. Within several months the headaches were becoming less. I now only visit once every 5 weeks and I rarely have headaches or neurological symptoms. Comparing where I was to how I am now, I feel like a different person. I have my life back and it’s thanks to Rebecca Nelson and the staff at Apex Clinic.

Ruth Walker – Dundonald

Suffering from vertigo/dizziness was ruining my life. I felt terrible with dizziness, every minute of every day. It was a feeling as if I had just stepped off a roller coaster ride. It didn’t matter whether I was sitting, standing, or lying down, the dizziness was still there. After hearing about Apex Headache Clinic, I booked an appointment in desperation. At the first session Rebecca diagnosed my vertigo as cervical vertigo, which stems from the upper neck region of the spine and is often misdiagnosed as vestibular vertigo, which originates from an imbalance in the inner ear. I couldn’t believe that after the first session I started to feel some relief already. I then had a course of treatment and now I feel that my life is back on track.

Richard Ross – Cullbackey

I began suffering from severe headaches four years ago. I can remember this so well because of the detrimental effect they were having on my life. I am always so shocked when I think back to the sudden onset of my headaches. Most people assume that they gradually build up and get progressively worse over time but for me, it was like being hit by a train. In just three short months my life has been totally transformed. After the first appointment I could already see the positive results the treatment was having. I couldn’t believe it. Initially, I attended weekly appointments and now given the success of my treatment, my visits have been reduced to once every three months. I am now 99% headache free and I honestly can’t believe it. I am delighted with the results

Patrick Campbell – Ballymena

Following a recommendation from a friend, I came along to Apex after years of living with migraines.
Having tried various strategies over the years without success; staying off different types of food and drink, exercise and various brands of tablets, it was great to finally find something that actually worked.

Linda Gordan – Newtownards

There are two distinct events that my headaches may be traced back to. In 1986, I had a bad skiing accident catching my back on a tree stump and breaking a bone in my mid spine. Two years after this, I suffered whiplash in a car accident. From the day of the car crash, I suffered from a persistent headache that was with me every minute of every day for 23 years. As anyone who has suffered from long-term pain will know, you feel like you would give anything to be normal again. I did it all; I saw three orthopaedic surgeons, a neurologist, a neurosurgeon, I had an MRI scan, received physiotherapy and was finally prescribed very powerful painkillers whose side effects made normal life an impossibility. From my first consultation with Rebecca Nelson, I felt as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. For the first time, I felt I was being listened to. Rebecca refused to give up on me. Her determination and great skill finally produced the miracle that has changed my life forever when, after a number of months, I had my first pain-free day in over two decades. The relief of this breakthrough was immense. I am now 98% of the time headache free and receive once monthly treatment for maintenance. Treatment at Apex Clinic has given me my life back.
